No Links, No Pictures, Just Feelings

Wow!  Okay, I may come back and post again a little later, but I have to say this weekend I've been left feeling a little down about this new blogging world and pinning world.  I guess I am a half full/rose-colored glasses kind of girl and in the last 24 hours that has come crashing down.

First of all, I never knew that you could offend so many people by accident.  I'm not sure that I have, but if you could read the TPT forums, you'd know that there are more rules than you ever knew existed with pinning.  It's to a point that most of us are afraid to pin because you may upset one of the "collaborative" boards and be banished forever.  I'm just waiting for my banishment papers to go through.

I try to show pinning etiquette.  If I've pinned an item to a collaborative board, then I don't pin that item to the board again usually for a week if not more.  If I'm on multiple collaborative boards, I don't pin the same item to the same boards in the same day.  I will pin it to several different boards, but they are all owned by different people.  I try to live by the 4/5 rule.  Four out of five of my pins are going to be freebies.  I do pin a lot to my personal boards, but people can choose if they follow those, so I figure if they are following them, then they need the ideas as much as I do.  That's just a few of the 10 commandments of pinning.

Then, I discover today that I should have been putting blog names instead of click here.  I will be working on switching those out over the next week.  Fortunately, the friend who told me about that was very sweet.  I just feel awful because I've been trying to be so careful about giving credit back to people.  If it isn't my idea, I want to give the credit back because these people are just like me.  Teachers who care about their kids and are trying to find new ways to reach them.  It never occurred to me that I wasn't doing that.

I also was given a head's up today that some people don't like you posting pictures of their items on your blog.  I could understand that if you are just posting pictures, but if you are linking back isn't that like patting someone on the back and saying, "Way to go!"  If you don't want people mentioning you in their blogs, then why would you put a picture on Pinterest?  The whole reason we get blog hits is because of people pinning and posting about us on their blogs.  Personally, I think it would be the neatest form of flattery to have someone mention my blog or something I've done on their blog.  Guess not though, so I guess I need to prepare myself... I may have a mean comment or two coming my way if I keep giving pictures and blog links.

So, all of that said, I'm sorry if I ever annoy any of you with my pins or with anything I post.  It is always my intent to just be me.  I just want to be the best at my job and the best at everything I do.  If I accidentally offend someone or make a mistake, then please email me at presroom116@gmail.com and I'll be happy to fix it.  Also, keep in mind that you were new once, too.  I am learning as fast as I can, but I don't know everything.

Back to work I go!

  2. Faith- Don't let people get you down! There are so many silly rules out there that it is IMPOSSIBLE to know them all (With only 3 months under my belt, it makes it even harder!) I had NO idea that it's "bad" etiquette to post about someone else's work on your blog. Especially when you link to their blog/TPT. You are promoting the item! It just boggles my mind that anyone would dislike that! I don't understand all the rules on pinterest boards, etc. They just don't make sense to me. I think there should just be a general "rule" for pinning etiquette for everything. I'm sorry you are feeling so low. Turn that frown upside down & just get back to being you! :)

    1. Thanks for your sweet comment. I'll be fine in an hour or two :) This is my pleaser side coming out :) I'm still going to keep posting because I do feel like I'm promoting them and with me it's a free promotion and I know I love when people do that for me :) Just crazy to think that giving to someone could cause them to get angry.

  3. I appreciate the links to other people and the ideas. I appreciate everything you do. I didn't know any of those silly rules, now wondering where to go to learn... I figure that as long as you give credit where due then that's the best rule of thumb. I think following the golden rule in all situations works - treat others how you would want to be treated... which means I appreciate people mentioning me with a link shows they care. Hope the rest of the day is better!

    1. Thanks :) Your comment definitely help :) Didn't mean to be so dramatic. I've just been amazed. I guess I need to remember that most people probably have the same views like me.

  4. Hum...I had no clue. I don't participate in any pintrest boards (never been asked). I do pin onto my own board, though. Is that okay? A few "big time bloggers" have pinned pics/my items and honestly those pintrest pins drive major traffic to my site.

I love when people mention my blog name or something I did. I had no clue people didn't like that. HUH? I thought that was the point of the blogging community -- to share ideas and learn from eachother. However, I have seen many long time bloggers making "blog etiquette posts".

I'm a newbie too and I haven't even joined in on the TPT blogs/online community.

    1. I think it is perfectly fine :) The biggest reason I joined them is because when I pin an item from here (usually my freebies) my blog hits go way up and then my TPT site goes up. I'm going to hopefully start two collaborative boards pretty soon with one simple rule, so when I do, I'd love for you to be apart of it. I'm also not going to be harsh with rule breakers :)

I was surprised about the picture thing, too. The person who gave me a head's up was very sweet and was just trying to look out for me. I think it just stunned me with all the other stuff. I'm such a pleaser/rule follower that some of these rules are definitely throwing me.

The TPT boards are great! You learn a lot from them, but on occasion they overwhelm me a little. However, I have to say, you may want to check out some of them, at least the ones with copyright information. That one really helped me out when I first started.

  5. There are so many rules in blogging world its so so hard to keep them straight! Like many of the other people have commented I LOOOOOOVE when someone pins or mentions something from my blog. I always thought that as long as you gave credit and linked it back to their blog it would be fine! HMMMM! I am very confused why someone would be upset from you sending other bloggers in their direction.

Please don't let that person get you down. I love your blog and we are all learning.

    1. There are definitely a ton of rules. The person who gave me a head's up was honestly trying to help. She wasn't ugly about it. She was just saying to be careful because someone was ugly to her for doing it. I think just hearing that on top of all the other stuff overwhelmed me.

Thanks for the sweet comment. I'm kind of surprised by all the sweet comments :) It definitely means a lot, especially since I'm so new to this.

  6. I am new to this as well and hadn't heard of that. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like a shout out on someone else's blog! I could see it if credit wasn't being given...but that's just odd. I guess I'm a repeat offender of this. For what it's worth, your blog is fantastic and this post shows a lot about who you are as a person. I appreciate your creativity and big heart.

  7. I had no idea there were so many rules out there...guess that's what I get for living under a rock and not being a "pinner" or "blogger" or "collaborative boarder" (or even knowing what that is!). I am sorry you feel so down...seems like half the blogs I read are endlessly self-promoting their newest product, so who would be mad about a shout-out from another blogger?

    Keep your chin up, Faith!

    1. I didn't know about all the "rules" until Paul's email a few weeks ago. It talked about all the freebies. I decided to go find the board and read it. Then, I found several more boards. I was just focused on creating, pinning, and blogging until then. Thank you for your encouragement :)

    2. Ha-Ha...I don't know what Collaborative boarder is either! It's funny how we as adults sometimes just go with the flow, what is the saying, "fake it until you make it". Yup, that's me...faking it until I google it!

  8. I am also new to blogging. I would love it if someone talked about one of my products or posts! I don't understand why someone would be upset especially if you give them credit. I get excited when someone leaves me a comment. Who makes these rules? I recently discovered your blog and love it! Hang in there!

    1. Aw! Thanks! I'm not sure... I think the problem is they are the "unknown" courtesy rules. I know for me, I try to be courteous, but each person has a different idea of what that entails. Who knows... I'm tired of all the rules. I just want to have fun :)

  9. I've been reading on the TPT forum, and while I've gotten some good tips, I can't believe how you can easily offend people. Several people mentioned that it turns them off when they see a price on a pin. I had no idea that people would think negatively of some things! I think since TPT and Pinterest are fairly new people are trying to figure out proper etiquette. Someone should write a rule book!

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I think a rule book would be great. The only thing is each of us have a different idea of what the rules should be :) LOL

  10. Blogging is a CRAZY world. And I have learned there are just some rude people out there, that you can't make happy. If you give credit where credit is due that is all you can do. Keeping doing all the great things you are doing!!

  11. It's funny how money corrupts. A year ago and non of this would even matter. A year from now and it may all be over.
I'm sooty that has become such a drag for you (and others) personally, I'm over the moon if someone likes what I've done in my classroom and shares with others.

    1. You are right... it all goes back to the money doesn't it? Hadn't thought of that :) I probably shouldn't have said anything. It just all hit at once and overwhelmed me. I'm good now though :)
