Fantabulous February Fun

If you are like me, you LOVE February, but have no idea where to start.  February is a short month and has some major holidays and fun things to cover if you are a first grade teacher.  Let's not even discuss the fact that most of us probably have observations coming up and other things that aren't quite as much fun.

Anyway, here are some of my favorite things that I am doing in February.  Some of these ideas are free, some are on Teachers Pay Teachers, and some are creative.  Oh, and just in case you like some of the items you have to buy, my store is on sale for 20% off today only.
1. February Book Reports
These are free and our kiddos love them.  You can do them with your whole class, use them as homework, or give them to a few individuals.  To grab them, click any of the images.

2. Washington Video
If you are like me, you enjoy getting to do a few short videos that match up to your material.  This little video is by Scholastic and is just a little over two minutes.  To watch, click on the image.

3. Freebie - Roll and Bump: Valentine's Day
This is a quick activity that your kids can do as a center or if they finish their work early.  Below is the color version, but there is also a black and white version.  Hope you enjoy!

4. February Packets
I love doing hands-on activities, centers, and games, but I still have to assess where my students are, sometimes review a topic, and give homework.  Here are several packets that can be used for hands-on activities or can be used for homework.  I've included a few sample pages below so you can see what is included in each packet.  If you are interested in them, click the image and it will take you to the packet.

5. Mardi Gras Freebie
This is a fun little game that my kids enjoyed last year.  It has Mardi Gras colors, but it's a math game.  If you want it, click on the image.

6. Dental Health Month
Our school always has a dental hygienist come talk to our K/1 students about taking care of their teeth.  The best part is they always bring little kits for all the kids.  If you've never done that with your kids see if your school nurse can contact a dentist or talk to your principal and see if it is okay to schedule it.  Our kids love it!

Now, here's a cute little freebie I found.  You can click on the image to go grab it.

7. Dental Health Video
This is a cute little video about a dinosaur visiting the dentist.  It's around seven minutes, so it isn't too long.

8. Black History Month
One of my favorite activities to do is to get a brown egg and white egg to show students that just because we are different on the outside it doesn't mean that we are different on the inside.  My kids also love it.  This freebie I found goes perfectly with this activity.

I also found a new site called Kid Scoop.  It has some neat little magazines that you can buy and download.  The nice part is you don't have to buy a year subscription like some magazines.  You just buy what you want.  If you aren't so sure about it, they have a free example that you can download that's on hand washing.  Each magazine is just a few dollars.

Have a great week and I hope this post saves you a little research time!
