Super Glitter Slime!!!!

I left off last night telling you that I would let you know how the slime turned out today.  Well, it occurs to me at 6:50 this morning, on the way to school, that I'm the time out room today.

Every Friday our entire grade level does Fun Friday.  Each week, we rotate the time out room.  Today was my day which meant I took all of the students that lost 2 points or more during the week or may have had unfinished work while my class was split between the two classes to my right.  Next week, the room next to me will be the time out room.  It's actually pretty nice because it frees you up to do some cool activities without also dealing with the punishing.

Anyway, that left me with a dilemma.  I REALLY wanted to make slime.  So, when I got to school I decided we had to have a test case of it, so I made a batch.  I know the instructions I posted yesterday said it would take 15 minutes, but if you know what you are doing, it will only take 10 minutes at the most.  I took a plastic bowl and poured my green, glitter glue into it.  Then, I added half a cup of water and stirred it until I thought most of the water was mixed into the glue.  After that, I sat that bowl to the side and mixed a teaspoon of Borax and half a cup of water.  Last of all, you pour the glue mixture into the Borax mixture and stir it.  I have to say, it was pretty amazing.  Within minutes, you have this beautiful gunk-like stuff to play with.

So, what worked and what didn't?  I think I got my measurements with the glue off slightly or I didn't mix the water into it enough.  By the end of the day, the slime wasn't slimy, but more rubbery.  It was breaking up into pieces.  I decided to be funny and throw a piece on the floor to see what would happen and it broke into probably 20 pieces.  It also bounced!  I'm going to play with the measurements a little more this weekend to see if I can adjust it to be a little bit less solid.  I also want to try to make smaller batches because the amount I made was a ton.  I want to adjust it to where each of my kids can make their own mini batch to take home.  The thing that went amazingly well was the glitter glue.  It was so pretty.  I have to admit, I played with the slime stuff all day.  I couldn't believe that three ingredients could make something so pretty and the texture was soothing... sad, I know.

Anyway, I hope all of you had a great Friday.  This girl is going to bed reasonably early.  I am zapped.
