Five for Friday on Saturday

Do you ever have one of those weeks that feels like a whirlwind?  My mind has been full of blogging ideas, stories, etc., but by the time I get home every night the only thing I'm left with is one word - sleep!  So, now I am going to attempt to catch you up on my week using Five for Friday.  Yes, I realize it's Saturday, but we can pretend, right?  Here are my five random facts :)

1. Valentine's Day (Kid Style)
Our day was one of the best ones I've ever had.  We had the adorable bags, the perfect snack, cool centers, and a crazy party.   To the left is a picture of how I made my cereal look cute.  I loved the individual boxes with the spoon tied on, but I've come to realize I'm not super-human, so I did this instead - cereal, white spoons, and red cups.  It's still Valentine colors, but it only took me five minutes to set up and I promise you, my six year olds loved every second.  I think the only thing I would probably change for next year is I'd have my kids fill their adorable bags that morning.  I did it twenty minutes before the party and it got just a little crazy.  I would also probably start my Valentine Task Cards the day before Valentine's Day.  The kids LOVED the different tasks.  I ended up picking four of them, but I definitely didn't do a good job of figuring out the amount of time it would take.  I'm going to make another set for St. Patrick's Day with the same activities, so if you liked the Valentine set, be watching for the St. Patrick's Day set sometime this week.  By the way, aren't the giant lollipops cute?  Our PTO does a Valentine order and kids send them to other kids, teachers, etc.  We used to do chocolate hearts, but I have to say, these are just adorable!

2. Valentine's Day (Hubby)
Oh my goodness!  My hubby is just hilarious, amazing, and the jokester all in one.  He texted me around 1:00 on Valentine's Day and told me to NOT check the account.  Obviously, we know what that means right?  He was getting my gift.  If I had texted that to him, he would have looked in two seconds.  I, on the other hand, love surprises, so I didn't check.  However, by the time I got home, I had a feeling I knew where he went.  I told him my guess and he looked disappointed.  Yep!  I was right.  He gave it away earlier in the week when he asked my shoe size.  Then, when he said not to check, I knew that it must be because the store name would give away what he got me.  So, I figured it out - I got TOMS!!!!  Not just one pair, but two!  Unfortunately, there was one missing from one of the boxes and the others were beautiful, but a little too small, so I exchanged them today for Toms like the ones in the picture above.

After my gift, we went to get pizza for dinner.  We started dating the day after Valentine's Day, so our first Valentine's Day was spent eating pizza.  Since then, we've made it our little tradition.  We finished up the night with a trip to Best Buy (his gift) and a trip to Target (two more ottomans).  Oh, and the jokester comment - you want to know what that means right?  Well, my "hilarious" hubby decided to take this giant stuffed object, hurl it at me, and yell, "Angry Birds!"  Seriously!  Not kidding!  I'm looking down at the time and all I see is this object flying at my head.  Fortunately, I caught it as it flew towards my face.  I took a picture for proof.

3. Science Day (Part 1)
I'm making 3 and 4 Science Day because I love you guys, but I know that chances are you don't want to read for two hours.  Friday was our school Science Day.  We had a blast.  What we do is set up a schedule for each grade level.  For example, first grade did three 45 minute rotations.  There are six of us, so rooms 116, 118, and 119 rotate together and rooms 112, 113, and 114 rotate together.  We did rotations on weather, plants, and sound.  After we finished our rotations, K-2 goes to an assembly where our county science guy comes and does some really cool experiments.  Then, we go get sack lunches from the cafeteria and the kids get to eat in the classroom or outside.  We've done this day for the last four years and I think every year it gets better.  Plus, I know for me it is so hard to get in science, so it's nice that we have one day a year where that is the focus.  Not to mention, we really don't use any worksheets.  The kids get to create, explore, and play all sorts of learning games.  It was hard doing it the day after Valentine's Day, but it was the perfect day, especially since we have our mid-Winter Break next week.  Above are pictures of two of the things my kids brought back from their rotations.

4. Science Day (Part 2)
Okay, so in Part 1 I explained what Science Day is and how it runs.  Now, I'm going to tell you about my activities.  This way, if your school or your grade level ever does this, then you can come here and grab all the activities in one place.

First, I start off giving the kids a little bit of info about sound.  Then, we play Sound Bingo.  Oddball Science has a great Sound Bingo.  We made up the cards ourselves using his pictures.  It was definitely worth it because the sounds were great.  I just sit at the computer, click a sound, and the kids have to guess which sound.  We play until we cover the whole card.

After Sound Bingo, I showed the kids a quick video on Teacher Tube about BoomWhackers.  Then, the kids actually got to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star with some BoomWhackers.  We borrowed them from our music teacher and from our school system.  The kids thought they were great.

The last thing we did is played Guess the Can.  My teammate and I did the same activities, so we got cans from the cafeteria, put different objects in them, and covered the cans with paper.  Then, we put numbers on them.  I would pick up the can, shake it, and the kids had a few chances to guess.  Once they guessed a few times, I'd use the Activboard to show them what was in the can.  It was funny to watch them try to guess.  We used five cans and placed pennies, foam blocks, balled up paper, crayons, and feathers in them.  Most of the classes guessed pennies, but they had a difficult time with the others.
5. March
Oh my goodness!!!!  It's almost my favorite month - March!  Since it's only a hop, skip, and a jump away, I went ahead and made my book report freebies.  I'm curious to see how much they are being downloaded, so this month I put them on TPT.  I'd love to get some feedback, so if you grab them, and have a minute leave me some :)  You can click on any of the pictures to go grab this freebie.  Hope you guys enjoy!

Alright, you are FINALLY to the end!  I hope you guys have a great night and I will definitely be posting tomorrow :)
