Five for Friday

Guess what time it is?  That's right!  Five for Friday time!  I'm linking up to Doodlebugs Teaching for their Five for Friday linky party.  Here are my five fun things for this week.

Love this little science experiment from Miss DeCarbo.   All you need are clear cups, water, shaving cream, and food coloring.  It was a HUGE hit with my kids.  Oh, and it was also extremely motivating. Wednesday was our rough draft day for writing.  Well, the kids and I discussed the fact that if they didn't work hard, they would miss out on the experiment.  My kids that usually fight finishing up their paragraphs knocked them out in under twenty minutes.  By the way, yes my name is on my paper.  My kiddos have insisted the last few weeks that if they have to write their names, then I should have to write my name.

The only thing I would suggest is don't pile up the shaving cream REALLY high (I kind of did this) and make sure you put the food coloring towards the side so it runs down into the water quicker.  Oh, and it is so much fun to let every kid make their own.

Wednesday was my birthday.  It's one of those birthdays that makes you realize that you aren't the baby of your school anymore.  Not sure why, but I felt a little older this time.  Here are pictures of my day.  Love that my sweet TA, teammates, and kiddos made it so much fun!  Oh, and seriously friends, it was an all day celebration from birthday printables to birthday snacks to birthday books.   I probably go a little overboard, but why not?  It's fun!

Since it was Read Across America week, we did Dr. Seuss stuff ALL week.  It was a blast!  On Wednesday, I had my kiddos write book reports on their favorite Dr. Seuss book.  I gave them three or four options.  Here's a final picture of their book reports with their craft.  The crafts are just construction paper, wiggly eyes, and paper plates.  Promise, they are VERY easy to make.

I love this girl!  She is my teammate and obviously one of my favorite people in the building.  We threw a baby shower for her today and it went great!  She's probably going to get me for this oh, as soon as she sees the post, but had to shout her out.  She's an amazing teacher and I am lucky to have her as my teammate and one of my dearest friends.  Now back to taking bets on her little guy coming early.

Since you read this far, I figured I'd share an old freebie because I can't think of a fifth thing to mention.  Hope you enjoy!  They are birthday freebies in case you want to have a little fun on your birthday.

Have a great weekend!

  2. Happy belated birthday, Faith! Looks like it was a great one, too!

Love your little cats! We are writing Cat in the Hat II right now, so maybe we can make these when we finish. (That ought to get those pokies moving, even if there's no shaving cream involved!) Thanks for the fun idea!
